Tutors come from all walks of life. It is not necessary to have formal training as a teacher or speak a foreign language.
You will attend a training session, given by the Richardson Adult Literacy Center before being placed with a student.
Volunteers meet with their students in public places and are not permitted to transport students.
The training session will provide you with the tools needed and covers many areas of thought to help guide you to a rewarding task of tutoring people that need to learn English as a second language.
The training methods are a tried and true system developed by Dr. Frank C. Laubach, known to many as the “Apostle to the illiterates” and was the leading pioneer of the contemporary adult literacy movement.
