    News Weather Cancellation The Richardson Independent School District (RISD) is closing all schools and offices tomorrow: Tuesday, January 16. RISD schools may or may not be open on Wednesday, January 17. For this reason, RALC has cancelled the New Student Registration events that were previously scheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday. RALC is working to reschedule the New Student Registration events for later this week. As soon as we have a new date and time for New Student Registration, we will let you know. Thank you for your patience and understanding.     New Student Registration DID YOU MISS REGISTRATION? Are you interested in taking English classes? Please do this: Complete the Adult Student Information Form ; You will receive an email with information about upcoming conversation classes and New Student Registration dates. Call 972-644-5119 or email students@ralc.org for more information. Adult Student Information Form Spring 2024 Registration CLOSED We are no longer registering and enrolling students for the Spring 2024 semester. Registration is over. Our classes are full. ​ WHEN IS REGISTRATION? Registration events take place each fall in early A ugust before the fall semester begins and in early January before the spring semester begins. There is no late registration. Once classes have started, we can't add new students. ​ Please complete the Adult Student Information Form to receive information about upcoming registration dates for English classes. ​ WHO CAN REGISTER? Adults (18 years of age or older) living in North Texas who need to learn English as a Second Language (ESL) are invited to attend a registration event. All new students must attend a New Student Registration event in order to enroll in RALC ESL classes. ​ WHAT HAPPENS AT REGISTRATION? At each New Student Registation event, all new students will go through the following process: Sign in - Write your name, email address, and phone number on a paper sign in sheet. Complete an application form - Each student will complete an online application form. Take a speaking and writing test - Each student will meet with a trained assessor who will guide them through a speaking and writting assessment. This will allow us to determine the student's English language proficiency and place the student in the correct class level. Enroll in class - Once we know the student's level of English, we can show the student the class schedule options available for that level. The schedule changes each semester. Pay the materials fee - After a student has enrolled in a class, he or she will pay the $35 materials fee. The fee can be paid by cash or credit card. The fee helps cover the cost of Zoom accounts, class handouts, books, teacher materials, etc. The student will receive a receipt. Please keep the receipt and be prepared to show it at class during the semester. ​ WHEN ARE CLASSES? ESL classes are only offered in the spring (January to May) semester and fall (August to December) semester. The English classes meet twice a week for two hours each class period for a total of 15 weeks. Most classses meet in the evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. There are a few daytime classes available, but not every level will be available during the daytime. The class schedule changes each semester. ​ IN PERSON CLASSES Most in person classes take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. ​ ONLINE CLASSES Most online classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. Online classes are only available for intermediate and advanced students. ​ WHERE ARE CLASSES? Classes take place at various locations in the City of Richardson or nearby in Dallas. RALC partners with local libraries, schools, and community organizations to offer in person classes. Locations change every semester. There are also a few online classes available for intermediate and advanced students.

Ann Banks Executive Director Ann supports and advocates the RALC mission, team, and students by enthusiastically building partnerships with community leaders and seeking additional revenue sources and opportunities for growth. Ann’s experience as a high school English teacher, upper elementary principal, alternative school director, college professor and administrator, corporate trainer, leadership coach, and executive leader have primed her to lead the charge as RALC continues its fourth decade serving Richardson and the north Texas region. Ann’s passion to serve others began in the classroom, but her passion to serve RALC began after volunteering as a facilitator for Career Bridge workshops. The dedication and organization of the staff, the determination and appreciation of the students, and the obvious need for and benefit of helping others communicate inspired Ann to commit to the RALC mission, team, and students. ​ Contact Ann Banks at director@ralc.org Carson Childress Program Coordinator Carson coordinates RALC’s English as a Second Language programs, including curriculum development, teacher training, student assessment, and teacher support. Her passion is creating engaging, active learning environments where adults can learn. Carson came to RALC after many years as an English Teacher. Andrea Hamblin Operations Manager & Volunteer Coordinator Andrea Hamblin coordinates RALC’s volunteers, from recruitment to training to placement to ongoing support. In 2017, she moved to Richardson and joined RALC as a volunteer teacher. As someone who grew up overseas and spent time learning languages, Andrea understands the struggle and is passionate about helping others overcome cultural and language hurdles. She looks forward to ensuring RALC volunteers can do the same while enjoying their work and feeling supported in their efforts. ​ Contact Andrea at volunteer@ralc.org . Katelijne Lefevere Student Success Coach Kat is a multilingual social worker with a background in workforce placement and medical social work. She started teaching with RALC as a volunteer in 2017 and fell in love with teaching. Kat coordinates student outreach and registration and also facilitates RALC’s Career Bridge Program which provides students with job search training and information about career paths. As a Peace Corps volunteer, Kat lived and worked in rural Ecuador for two years. She understands how difficult it can be to learn a second language and navigate a new culture. Kat is passionate about supporting students as they work to improve their language skills and find meaningful employment. Originally born in Belgium, Kat speaks Dutch, Spanish, English and some French. Kat lives in Richardson with her husband and two sons. ​ Contact Kat at students@ralc.org . Gabrielle Pise Communications Coordinator Gabrielle is a Dallas transplant with a passion for empowering her community, highlighted by her service to non-profit organizations for over 10 years. With a background in tech and holistic wellness, she brings a unique flair to the RALC team. When she’s not curating online content, you can find her traveling, leading yoga & sound healing sessions, and hanging with her cats, kids, and husband.
